Supplemental insurance in Las Vegas — dental, vision and more

In addition to Medicare and the ACA, there are supplemental plans that fill common gaps: hospital stays, dental, vision and funeral expenses. Sara Salazar explains which options exist in Nevada and how to combine them with your current coverage.

What is supplemental insurance?

Supplemental insurance consists of policies that add protection where your main plan may fall short. They do not replace major medical insurance, but they can give you peace of mind in the face of unexpected expenses.

In Las Vegas and Henderson, many families combine Medicare or a marketplace plan with supplemental coverage based on their age, health and budget.

Types of supplemental coverage

  • Hospital indemnity — a cash payment for a hospital stay to cover deductibles, transportation or household expenses.
  • Dental — cleanings, X-rays, extractions and, on some plans, orthodontics or dentures.
  • Vision — eye exams, lenses and discounts on frames, depending on the plan.
  • Final expense — helps families cover funeral costs and smaller debts.

When does a supplemental plan make sense?

If your current plan has high deductibles, doesn't include dental or vision, or you want a financial cushion in case of a hospital stay, a supplemental plan can be useful. The key is not paying for duplicate coverage.

During the free consultation, Sara reviews what you have today and what gaps remain uncovered.

Frequently asked questions

Does supplemental insurance replace Medicare or a health plan?
No. Supplemental plans are designed to work alongside your main coverage. For example, a hospital indemnity plan pays a cash benefit if you are hospitalized, without replacing your core health insurance.
Do I need dental insurance if I have Medicare?
Original Medicare generally does not include routine dental care. Some Medicare Advantage plans include limited dental benefits. A supplemental dental plan can cover cleanings, extractions and other procedures, depending on the plan.
Can I combine several supplemental plans?
In many cases, yes, depending on your eligibility and budget. Sara helps you prioritize which coverages make the most sense for your situation without duplicating unnecessary benefits.
